August 2005: Aviation Research Analyst: Job Description: Phaneuf Associates Incorporated has an immediate need for an Aviation Research Analyst. The analyst will work on-site at the Federal Aviation Administration in Washington, D.C., with a team of research specialists to support the National Aviation Safety Data Analysis Center (NASDAC). The analyst will support the FAA and other government/non-government analysts and managers with safety analyses by combining NASDAC’s advanced automation and analytical tools with the analyst’s aviation safety expertise. In addition, the analyst will support FAA personnel with conducting briefings to demonstrate NASDAC’s system capabilities. The analyst also will develop and conduct training classes on NASDAC databases and tools. Qualifications: Education — The applicant must possess a 4-year college degree, preferably in aviation science or aeronautical engineering with an emphasis on aviation safety. U.S. Citizenship required. Related Experience The applicant must have experience with— • Aviation operations (airline or general aviation operations) • PC-based technologies, specifically— Microsoft products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access, and Project) Internet Browsers (Internet Explorer, Netscape) The applicant would benefit by having experience with— • Working with relational database management systems • Working with data mining and data exploration tools • Developing and providing user training and support to system users • Analyzing aviation safety data Other Experience — It would benefit the analyst to have 2 years of technical or professional experience in aviation operations, aviation safety research, statistical analysis, economic analysis, or systems engineering (for example, risk analysis).
